NEW ROSS SENIORS

Like racehorses in the stalls awaiting the start of a race, we senior golfers are ready and eager for competitive action on Thursday, July 23.

After months of lockdown, 13 teams will take to the fairways in their allotted timeframe of 10 a.m. to 12 noon, both times inclusive.

In accordance with Government protocol, strict rules must be obeyed, with a ten-minute interval between teams, all playing off the first tee. Players are asked to arrive in the car park only ten minutes before their tee-off time in order to avoid congestion and adhere to distancing regulations.

A sanitiser is placed at the entrance to the course which should be used by players before and after their game.

Team captains must collect the entry fee which is €6 per person for the two weeks (all players please have the exact €6 ready to avoid needless handling of money for change).

The captain will place the €24 entry fee in an envelope with the four names inscribed thereon, and deposit it in the Seniors’ box situated in the Pro Shop. This is to conform with the ruling for tracing purposes in the coronavirus pandemic.

A Seniors competition box will also be in the Pro Shop where score cards can be deposited. Only the signature of the captain is needed on the card, verified by his team-mates.

There will be no nearest the pin prizes on the par threes, again to avoid touching the flag-pole measure. Other regulations are: no slow play in the champagne scramble format, no limit on drives, play your own ball on the par threes, and two best scores counting on holes 1-18.

It’s great to be back, so, let’s abide by the rules and regulations and make the game enjoyable for all concerned, even though the coffee and tea afterwards has to wait another while.

The tee-times are:

10 a.m., Denis Kirwan, Willie Whitty, Martin Burke, Dick Cahill;

10.10 a.m., Jim ‘Ross’ Ryan, Jamesie Wallace, Frank Boyle, Jamesie Murphy;

10.20 a.m., Tony Harford, Richie Aylward, Willie Wallace, John P. Aylward;
