MTech to create 25 tech jobs in Wexford
WEXFORD received a boost on the employment front last week with the news that US company MTech Mobility is to base its European operations in Ardcavan Business Park. The move is expected to create at least 25 jobs over the course of the next three years as the Florida-based company seeks to expand into the European market.
MTech, a provider of life-cycle and repair services for mobile and IT devices used in the workplace, will lease a 1,400 square-metre facility in Ardcavan, with the Wexford project being supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.
‘MTech’s demand is being driven by US-based multinational customers and partners as well as regional organisations headquartered in Europe,’ said company CEO Tony Fernandez. ‘We look forward to helping existing US customers with their global reach and bringing this exciting service to new customers in Europe.’
Jerry Whiston, general manager of European Operations, said: ‘Ireland is an ideal launching point for expanding into Europe. It’s an English-speaking country with a great university training system, great workforce, and it’s part of the European Union.’
MTech’s European operations will replicate MTech’s USbased approach to managed services delivery, including device, operating system and wireless carrier-agnostic services focused on deploying, supporting and managing mobile and IT devices of any kind. According to the company, these services allow the enterprise to offset the heavy lifting associated with technology innovation to achieve speed to market, drive end-user satisfaction and maximise return on IT investment.
The move was welcomed by local TDs James Browne and Paul Kehoe.
‘It is a vote of confidence in County Wexford,’ Deputy Browne said. ‘I am determined that this will only be the first of several jobs announcement for Wexford over the lifetime of this new government.’
He said that these new jobs ‘reflect’ the commitment of the new government and its agencies to ‘pursue balanced and sustainable regional development’.
Deputy Kehoe echoed these sentiments.
‘ This move is a massive vote of confidence in County Wexford in these most challenging economic times,’ he said. ‘ This base will see the creation of 25 jobs over the next three years with applications already being accepted. We have seen over the last number of years a growing trend of foreign direct investment in the south east by the technology sector. This investment will add to that cluster in the south east region.’
He said the sector has ‘proven its sustainability and adaptability’ despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that ‘ targeted developments, such as the technology park in Enniscorthy, will serve to sustain and expand that investment’.
