AIB donates thousands to 10 Wexford charities

-

AIB branches in Wexford have come together to support 10 local charities and help provide direct funds to local community efforts.

A total of €200,000 has been made available to branches across the country (€1,000 per branch) as part of AIB Together, the bank’s community investment programme.

The Wexford charities that received support from this fund include Barnardos, the Jack & Jill Foundation, The Hope Centre, Gorey Meals on Wheels, Talk to Tom, New Ross Community Hospital, New Ross Meals on Wheels, Wexford Rape Crisis, Wexford Women’s Refuge and The Ford Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre.

Speaking about the donations, Gaye O’Connell, head of AIB Wicklow, Wexford and Carlow, said: ‘ The Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow AIB family, are proud to be part of the AIB Together Community Programme where we donated €11,000 to 25 local charities right across the three counties.

As we all know, charities are particularly challenged this year due to Covid-19 as a number of their fundraisers have been curtailed. So with charity income down, our donations were especially well received and appreciated.’

Separately, AIB has also launched a fundraising initiative to further support communities impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. As part of the AIB Together programme, partnering with AIB’s long-standing community partners FoodCloud and Soar, in addition to ALONE and Pieta House, staff can fundraise or donate directly into a dedicated AIB Together Fund. AIB will then match the fund for final disbursement to the chosen charity. The bank has set itself a target of raising €1 million from colleagues which will be matched by €1 million from the business – creating an overall ambition of giving €2 million to communities most in need right now.
