SPRINGING INTO ACTION

- By DAVID LOOBY

Members of New Ross Better Business Group have been all action this month, raising money for New Ross River Search & Rescue, the group’s charity partner last year.

Founding member of the group, Angela Devereux said: ‘It was last February when we chose the charity and we were due to have a member come and talk to us when Covid-19 struck. We put it on the long finger and other things became our priority, At the beginning of this year I decided that wasn’t good enough and we had a responsibility to our charity.’

Angela contacted her fellow Better Business Breakfast Group members and they decided to do a 80km walk/jog challenge for the month of February.

‘We will donate and fundraise. We set the goal as €300 and the group would match anything raised up to €300. We have exceeded this and it is continuing to grow. I would love to be able to give as much as we can to this amazing charity that does so much for our community. The members of our group that are taking part are amazing and they are sending photos of their locality on the walks and all the beautiful views that I am sharing on our social media page. It is like taking a virtual tour around the locality, which is something I wasn’t expecting.’

Angela said: ‘ I know how important it is to get out and get moving and this event is definitely proving to be the case. We all feel healthier and happier, there is lots of support and encouragement for each other and we are raising money for a worthwhile charity.’
