MASS TIMES

With the continuing ban on the celebration of public Masses, parishioners at least still have the alternative of tuning into Facebook, where Fr Dan Cavanagh is on duty each weekend and on Wednesdays and Fridays also. Weekend Masses are at 7 p.m. on Saturdays, 11 a.m. on Sundays, and on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m.

Mass can also be viewed on the RTÉ News Now (channel 521), Monday to Friday with celebration coming from all over Ireland, such as last Thursday when the Bishop of Kilmore celebrated Mass from Cavan Cathedral.

BEST WISHES

Best wishes go to John Healy of Brownstown recovering well at home after his recent operation. John could be known throughout Kilkenny and far beyond as Mr GAA, such was his lifetime involvement in the association. A former chairman of the Kilkenny County Board he was instrumental in overseeing the development of Nowlan Park, making it one of the finest stadiums in the country.

Closer to home, he did tremendous work for the Tullogher-Rosbercon Club helping making their facilities both in the clubrooms and on the pitches second to none. Whether it was on the gate, doing umpire, directing traffic, erecting the nets or any other chore, he was always to the fore.

We wish him continued progress on the road to recovery and get to enjoy the Gaelic Games that he knows and loves so well whenever they resume.

LATE THOMAS GREENE

Shanbogh lost another of its long-time residents with the death of Thomas Greene on February 10. Thomas was a wellknown and popular figure in the local and surrounding areas and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Quietly spoken, he was was well-versed in all matters of the country, be they farming, sporting or cultural. He liked to have nothing better than a friendly chat with all his neighbours and friends.

A man of the land, he farmed all his life in Shanbogh as well as being one of the last cot fishermen to take a drift down the Linn Mhor, a part of the river which traditionally was the snap-net men of Shanbogh’s domain.

Thomas was laid to rest in Rosbercon cemetery on Friday last after a private Requiem Mass in the Church of the Assumption. Sadly, due to Covid 19 restrictions, only a limited number of mourners could attend the obsequies.

Pre-deceased by wife Kitty (Treacy) and daughter Carmel some years ago, he is survived by his son, Pat, daughters, Brid and Mairead, brothers, Mikey and Johnny, sister Nan (Furlong), son-in-law, David, brothers-inlaw, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends and neighbours. Go nDeana Dia Trócaire ar a Anam Dilis.
