Investment in Glenmore water supply sees it removed from EPA action list
GLENMORE residents can enjoy safe drinking water following improvements to the supply.
Local Fine Gael TD John Paul Phelan welcomed the news that the water supply in Glenmore has been removed from the EPA’s Remedial Action List and commended local councillor Fidelis Doherty on her constant work to have the investment made.
‘ This upgrade is significant for Glenmore and ensures that the 135 customers on the supply now have the quality of water they deserve. Everyone should have a clean, safe supply and this is particularly welcome news for those with vulnerable members in their household – including babies or those who are immuno-compromised,’ Deputy Phelan said.
Cllr Doherty said: ‘It’s taken a while to get this work done but we’re glad it is now complete. The installation of ultra-violet disinfection addresses our long-running concerns and the lingering threat of Cryptosporidium.’
Drinking Water Compliance Specialist with Irish Water, Pat Duggan said: ‘ This upgrade of Glenmore’s Water Supply Scheme is hugely important for the area. As part of this project, Irish Water upgraded the water treatment processes and installed a new ultra-violet (UV) disinfection system which meant that these works addressed the EPAs concerns regarding Cryptosporidium risk in the Glenmore supply and enabled its removal from the EPA’s Remedial Action List.’
Capital Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water, Ian O’Neill said: ‘ These works outline Irish Water’s commitment to safeguarding our water for our future. We are delighted that the scheme is now removed from the RAL and that the residents of Glenmore can enjoy a safer, more reliable water supply.’
Irish Water continues to work with our local authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and wellbeing of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services.
