Wexford Golf Club news

-

THE AGM of the joint Wexford Golf Club was held during mid-January and was convened via Zoom, with a number of motions and proposals discussed.

The budget was framed on the basis that the majority of present members renew in 2021 as an increasing number of members are qualifying for the 25-year membership reduction.

The possibility of reintroducing a second Smart Card Credit incentive providing a sufficient number of members commit to renewal of their subscriptions by February 28 was also on the agenda.

The huge amount of voluntary labour that goes into the organisation of the men’s and ladies’ competitions supported by valued sponsors, and the work of Liam Bowler and the Pro Shop personnel, was also acknowledged.

The cost of maintenance, which is often forgotten and includes contracts on pest control, fire safety, security and lift maintenance irrespective of whether the course is open or closed, was also discussed at the meeting.

Not being able to put a date on a return to the fairways due to foul weather and the pandemic was also causing concern.

The following management committee officers were elected to take care of club affairs for 2021: President, Larry Byrne; Captain, James Keane; Vice-Captain, John Pitt; lady Captain, Lily Rowe; lady Vice-Captain, Beppi O’Connor; Hon. Secretary, Martina Dempsey; Hon. Treasurer, Brian Judd.
