Proposedbypass routestoberevealed
February 1997
The people of Gorey and environs will get a chance to view the proposed routes for the Gorey bypass before any final decision is taken, it was highlighted at last week’s meeting of Gorey Town Commissioners.
Cmmr. Joe Funge asked for information about the study carried out by the National Roads Authority (NRA) concerning possible routes and he was informed that Gorey District Committee were due to view the study at their meeting next Friday.
Then the Town Commissioners will view the proposed route and then they will go on public display, it was confirmed.
Deputy Michael D’Arcy informed his colleagues that the NRA study shows nine lines which have been given consideration, some to the east of the town and some to the west. He stressed that no decision has yet been made on the final line.
Assistant Co. Manager John Hutchinson concurred with this, stating that the NRA has been comprehensive in its study of a number of lines. The bypass itself will impact on the town and the future of the town, he said.
Depending on which route is picked, it may have a significant good or bad effect on Gorey, he warned. ‘It’s a very important decision,’ he stated plainly.
He proposed that a copy of the NRA report be put on display at the Gorey courthouse building before the March meeting of the Commissioners. ‘People will get a chance to make their views known,’ he commented.
