The staff of St Louis Day Care Centre continue to work behind closed doors. We are unable to open as yet in light of the current conditions with Covid-19. We are keeping close contact with our clients and assisting when we can. If you might like to avail of our services: Meals delivered five days a week to include the weekends. Home Baking by order, laundry and assistance with showering. Nurse to collect prescripti­ons and give advice, please contact us. SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Ellen Roche, St Leonards on the death of her brother John Hanrahan, Hotel Curracloe, which occurred last week. May he rest in peace.

BINGO

Gusserane Ladies’ Football club have organised online bingo to help get the parish through the current lockdown and raise some much-needed funds for their club. SAD PASSINGS

The parish of Bannow was saddened to hear of the death of Ger Woolley, Cullenstow­n, last weekend. He is survived by his son Richard, partner Becky, sisters Lillian and Bridget, relatives and friends. Ger was brought to Carrig church on Wednesday, February 17, at midday and he was buried afterwards in Shemogues cemetery. May he rest in peace.

We were sad to hear also of the death of Mary Barrett (née Purcell) of Brendan, Bannow last Saturday. Mary was 97 years old and was the owner of the Brendan Inn. She is survived by her sister Josie, relatives and friends. Her removal to Carrig church took place on Monday at 1 p.m. and she was buried in Bannow cemetery afterwards. May she rest in peace.

Dinah Nolan, Dublin and Cullenstow­n also passed away this week in Dublin. She is survived by her husband Jimmy, daughter Anne-Marie sons Shay and Paul, grandchild­ren, relatives and friends. Her funeral took place last Saturday morning at the Church of St Therese Mount Merrion at 10 a.m. Deepest sympathy to all the relatives.

MASS

Mass for Carrig-on-Bannow church will be online on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. on churchserv­ices.tv then county Wexford then Carrig-on-Bannow. There is Mass also at 10 a.m., Tuesday to Friday.

The refurbishm­ent of Grantstown Court has commenced and there is great work been carried out. The properties are having a new state-of-the-art heating system installed at present. All safety guidelines are been adhered to and the staff have been doing an excellent job ensuring that sanitisati­on is carried outthrough­out Grantstown at short intervals throughout the day.

Well done to the residents that are adhering to the restrictio­n guidelines for their safety and the safety of others within the community.

We would like to extend the very best of birthday wishes to a member of Grantstown staff, Anna Walsh, who celebrated a milestone birthday this week.

We are missing the sound of lively chatter and laughter surroundin­g us in the daycare centre every day. We hope our daycare clients are keeping well and we are keeping in touch with you all by telephone, however, if you ever feel the need a chat or a friendly catch up, please do not hesitate to call us any time at 051 561016 as someone will always be available for a natter. This alarm system is designed to help elderly people live securely in their own homes with confidence, independen­ce and peace of mind. The alarm or pendant which can be worn as a wrist bracelet or around the neck is completely free for the first year and a small yearly monitoring fee will apply after that. GAA BINGO

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club Online Bingo that began on the first Thursday of February is proving very popular and is attracting many regular and some new bingo players.

In order to join in and get started, many enlisted the help and expertise of their more tech-savvy family members and were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to play online. Substantia­l cash prizes were on offer, along with a raffle for vouchers. The bingo continues for the foreseeabl­e future on Thursdays at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome to play the Oulart-The Ballagh Bingo.

Scoil Mochua, Oulart National School was officially opened by the former Bishop of Ferns, Rev Brendan Comiskey on March 14, 1986, but the pupils had their first day’s classes in the new school on January 21, 1985. GAA 20 YEARS AGO

In 2001 Oulart-The Ballagh defeated Monageer-Boolavogue in the Premier under-21 hurling final, in Farmleigh. The team that did duty that day was Stephen Doyle, Lar Dempsey, Paul Roche, Michael Reddy, Brian Martin, Darren Stamp, Vinnie Hendley, Michael Jacob, Shane Reddy, Rory Jacob, Anthony O’Leary, Darren Nolan, Des Mythen, Hugh O’Connor, Adrian Harris. In the subs were Charlie Murphy, Rory Fortune, Emmet Rice, Edward O’Grady, Andrew Kavanagh, Mark Rossiter, Willie Whelan, Lar Prendergas­t, John Roche, Colin Sunderland, Lorcan Leacy. The mentors were Pat Dempsey, Willie Sunderland and MJ Kehoe. That victory in 2001 was the first time that Oulart-The Ballagh had won that top grade as a single parish.

Previous victories had been won combined with Buffers Alley in 1965 and 1966 and combined with Monageer in 1977 and 1985.
