LENT 2021

With visits to churches for Masses and other services curtailed due to the Coronavirus distribution of the usual Trocaire Charity donation boxes have been affected. However, they are available for collection at the back of the church and more will be delivered to household by our dedicated distributors who will also bring the Lenten Alms envelopes as well.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL

In these troubled times the committee of the local, St Mholing Branch of St Vincent De Paul are doing great work behind the scenes in helping members of our community who due to no fault of their own have fallen on lean times. The members are also available to help out with transport for older people who may need help with their shopping or maybe keep a medical appointment.

Do not hesitate to contact any of the following committee members if you need help, Richard P McElwee, Seamus Waters, Brid Vereker, Mary B Conway, Catherine Cotterell.

LATE MARGARET DOOLEY

The townland of Raheen lost another of its respected residents with the recent death of Margaret Dooley (née Carley). A well-known business woman in New Ross and later in Raheen, specialising in bicycles and childrens’, prams, etc, many the family who dealt with her saw their youngsters got their first spin in one of Cullen’s Cycles (as the firm was known. A pleasant lady to meet and deal with she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Due to Covid 19, and restrictions on mourners, her funeral was held privately in the Church of the Assumption, Rosbercon and she was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery after Requiem Mass. Sincere sympathy goes to her husband, Jim, and the extended family in their great loss. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

BISHOPRIC VACANT

With the appointment of Bishop Dermot Farrell as Archbishop of the Dublin Diocese, we have no presiding Bishop in Ossory at the moment. The diocese is under the acting care of Bishop Denis Nulty, of Kildare and Leighlin, until Pope Francis picks a new man for the position.

ROSBERCON MASS TIMES

Due to the ongoing lockdown concerning the celebration of Masses and attendance of the general public we will have for the time-being to depend on Facebook and television for all those wishing to view the services. Fr Dan Cavanagh can be seen on Facebook every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and on Sunday’s at 11 a.m.

On Wednesdays and Fridays Mass is on the same service at 10 a.m. each morning. You can also tune into the RTÉ News Channel 521, Monday to Friday, at 10.30 a.m. if you wish to view Mass on television.

CAMROSS DRAMA GROUP

We hope all our loyal supporters are keeping well in these strange times. Restrictions have curtailed most amateur drama activities, however, we are pleased to announce that the group is submitting a radio play for a Radio Play Competition run by West Clare Drama Group and Scarrif Bay Community Radio. The play is ‘Billy the Member’, written in the 1980s by our president and founding member Des Waters.

Audiences may recall, Camross had this play on the one Act Circuit some years ago. The radio version will be directed by Michael Stafford, tech by Cathal Byrne, and cast: Billy – George Hussey, Joe – Paddy O’Gorman, Barman – Cathal Byrne. Zoom rehearsals are ongoing, recording soon and fingers crossed it will be shortlisted for airing in late February/early March.

We will give further details on progress and how you can hear the play.
