ONLINE BINGO

Gusserane Ladies’ Football club’s online bingo is proving to be a huge hit and is helping to get the parish through the current lockdown, while also raising some much needed funds for the club.

It takes place on Wednesday evenings from 8 p.m. – just like it did 50 years ago when it was first played in the then newly opened Gusserane Hall. With the Snowball increasing each week the prizemoney is now quite an attraction.

To sign up you will need to email gusseranelgfabingo@ gmail.com with your name, phone number, email address and number of bingo cards that you require. Payment of €8 per card is through Revolut to 087 8372910, but if you have any issues with payment or getting set up your are asked to contact Aoife (086 2182901) or Breda (087 3844945). Further details are available on the Gusserane LGFA social media sites of Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Prize winners last week were Myna Cadogan, Mary Hughes, Billy Byrne, Sophie Rossiter, Barry Murphy, Lily White, Jack O’Connor, Mena Finn, Mamie King, Stasia Furlong, Hannah Fitzharris. Spot prize winners were Deborah Kehoe, Grace O’Hanlon, Emma Power and Katheen O’Neill.

Many thanks to the following who sponsored prizes on the night: Noel Byrne and family, Murphy’s Centra, Ballycullane PO and Roche’s Campsite in Clonmines.

TINTERN REVIEW

Attention has now turned to this year’s Tintern Review. The editorial team would like to thank all those who submitted articles and photographs last year, but the call is now going out for new material for the next publication.

So if you have a story or yarn that you feel should be published for posterity please get in touch. Old photographs are also always welcome. Send your material in to tinternreview@gmail.com and one of the team will get back to you.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

The following appeared in the local notes from December 1971.

BINGO BLACKED OUT – The bingo session in Gusserane Hall on Wednesday of last week had to be abandoned when a power failure blacked out the area. The session was about three quarter way through when the failure occurred. Power was restored within an hour. The blackout was caused by a fuse failure in an overloaded transformer in the locality.

CARDS – Henry Sinnott of Boley, Jim Fitzgerald of Rathnageeragh and Michael Molloy of Boley were winners at the card drive and social in Gusserane Hall on Thursday night. The proceeds were in aid of parochial funds.

ON WINNING TEAM – Mick Caulfield, Saltmills, a brother of Paddy, who plays under-21 football for Wexford, was a sub on the De La Salle under-16 team which beat Tralee CBS at Mitchelstown on Sunday. The winners have now qualified for the Munster final. Mick won the Rackard League football with Tintern in 1970.
