MAYGLASS CEMETERY

The parish council is pleased to support the group involved in the Biodiversity project in the parish. In order to do our part to improve the environment for pollinators and insects and encourage biodiversity, a small area of the grass in Mayglass cemetery has been allocated to be managed as a wildflower area for the coming season on an experimental basis.

We ask for your patience with this initiative and hope it will bring environmental benefits and enhance the area.

NATIONAL GAA CLUB DRAW

National GAA Club Draw tickets are presently on sale from all St Fintan’s adult team players. Tickets are €10 and all proceeds stay with the club.

This is a very important fundraiser for our adult teams for the coming season as all other traditional fundraising avenues are curtailed due to the present Covid crisis. Prizes include a new Renault Clio and €2,000 cash aswell as shopping vouchers and various other cash prizes and all-Ireland packages.

Just make contact with any of our players to purchase your ticket. As ever your support is very much appreciated and we all look forward to the day where we will once again line the sidelines cheering on our players in the green and yellow.

The St Fintan’s GAA Club is currently running a fundraiser with a Ford 3000 tractor as the prize. The proceeds from the draw will go towards the provision of an indoor training facility for the underage and a club gym. Tickets for the draw are €5 each or five for €20 and may be purchased online at winthetractor. ie or by contacting a committee member. Best of good luck in the draw.

WALKING TRACK

Following the heavy rain and frost the grassed area in the grounds is unsuitable for use so we ask that you refrain from doing so for the foreseeable future. Many thanks for your co-operation. A healthy way to exercise so please stay safe.

CAIRDE LOCH GARMAN AWARDS

Congratulations to St Fintan’s man Conor Sinnott, who was one of five nominees for the number nine jersey on the Wexford 2020 club football team of the year.

The winners for all 15 positions on the team were announced via a virtual awards night which was streamed by Wexford GAA on Saturday night last. We hope to have good news on his behalf in next week’s slot.

HORSE RACING

Local man and one of Irelands top qualified riders Jamie Codd received the bad news that he and his fellow qualified Irish jockeys plus the amateurs in England were banned from taking part in this year’s Cheltenham festival due to government restrictions on grass roots sports. Jamie is then denied the opportunity to add to the 10 winners he has already ridden at the festival.

UNDERAGE LADIES – Last week’s edition of this paper had a lovely photography of the St Fintan’s under-14 ladies’ football team proudly wearing the Kiely’s centra Killinick sponsored jerseys having defeated Starlights on a score line of 6-06 to 1-08 in the Div.2 final. The edition also featured a proud moment when Sophie Wallace was receiving the trophy from Yvonne Fylnn after the final. We are now left wondering as to when these young stars may get to grace the playing fields again.

WOMEN’S SHED

The ladies of Tomhaggard Women’s Shed have been busy over the past week’s making another batch of sensory blankets for a nursing home while some of the ladies were learning crochet skills by making ‘mice’ which were included on the blankets. Well done ladies very thoughtful and beneficial and a good way of keeping busy during this time of lockdown.
