JACK’S SURREAL HOOK IMAGES
IT’S Hook Lighthouse, but not as you know it.
Photographer Jack Butler has captured the iconic structure in an innovative new postcard collection – the proceeds from which will raise money for a low cost counselling service at South West Wexford Family Resource Centre (SWWFRC) in Ramsgrange.
The Templetown man is a member of the Blokes with Camera group, which is normally based at the centre.
‘I believe this counselling service is needed more than ever at this time. The images on the postcards have all been created from photographs I have taken of Hook Lighthouse,’ Jack said.
A fan of Photoshop, Jack was inspired by the lighthouse to create the images.
‘One of them is like a St Brigid’s Cross. St Dubhan was the founder of the lighthouse so I called that image St Dubhan’s Cross. The lighthouse is such an iconic feature down there. What surprises me all of the time is that you can still see images that strike you when you are there. It’s a beacon to people at sea so one of the postcards goes back into the picture representing the light.’
Each pack contains six different images and the cost per pack is €5 with all proceeds going to SWWFRC counselling service.
The cards are available from the post offices at Fethard on Sea, Ramsgrange and Campile. ‘I am promoting them on social media and have been getting some sales. I hope tourists will pick them up when they can come down there.’
