WEXFORD GOLF

-

GOLFING IN Ireland was the longest in lockdown in Europe and it gave us all a lift when it was announced that we may once again open up the club, albeit in a limited manner.

The clubhouse will remain closed other than to provide services such as toilets/washrooms and locker rooms. Since the game of golf is one of the first sports to be allowed back and is an activity that can be played within the rules of social distancing, therefore we as members are responsible for our own safety and that of others and must ensure that we play within the rules as set out by Golf Ireland in a responsible manner.

The demand for playing may be high but we must be patient as the club will be setting up tee-time restrictions as advised to minimise any risks.

We must remember that these restrictions are not going to last forever and we thank our members for their patience during these challenging times.

It is now time to freshen up the golf bag and to make sure that our shoes and trolley are fit for purpose as April 26 is closer than we all think. At first the timesheet will be open to members only in an effort to try to facilitate those longing for a game.

Congratulations to the three prize winners – Deirdre Colfer, Ray Cullinane and Martin Bergin – in the Pro Shop lucky ball draw with the bonus ball numbers 4, 16 and 22.

During the past week the club learned of the sad passing of Eugene Byrne, Killeens, Newline Road, Wexford. Eugene, a retired member of An Garda Síochána, was a former Captain at the club (2001) and a convener with the Junior section for a number of years.

He will be sadly missed by those fortunate enough to have known him. We send our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
