Vouchers provide €480k boost
WHILE local businesses have undoubtedly faced major challenges as a result of the Covid pandemic, one really positive news story came in the form of County Wexford Chamber’s ‘Shop Local vouchers’.
Launched in October of last year, the new vouchers can be spent in participating outlets in Wexford, Gorey and New Ross and are a great way to provide a significant boost to a local economy which has been battered by Covid-related closures.
‘Sales figures in 2020 increased to an amazing €482,000,’ said Chamber operations manager Emma Dunphy. ‘ This is fantastic evidence that the people of Co Wexford stood behind their local businesses and supported local at a time when businesses needed it most. Every euro that was spent locally has a multiplier effect in our community that benefits businesses, jobs and the local economy.’
On behalf of the Chamber, Emma wished to thank everyone who participated in the initiative and purchased Shop Local vouchers.
‘From individual customers to businesses of all sizes, your contribution to your local community will assist businesses who may be struggling during these difficult times,’ she said. ‘ The impact these vouchers will have on the local economy will be so important, especially when restrictions are lifted. Shopping local is not just for Christmas, which is why our Shop Local vouchers are available to purchase all year round in denominations of €10, €25 and €50. Keeping money in the local economy is so important and the vouchers make an ideal gift for any occasion. When you purchase a Shop Local voucher, you are not just giving to one person. You are giving the gift of supporting businesses in your local area.’
Co Wexford Chamber has assured businesses who have signed up to accept Shop Local vouchers, but are closed due to current lockdown restrictions, that over 70 per cent of vouchers are still in circulation within Co Wexford. Businesses who accept vouchers are urged to display window stickers in their premises and promote on their websites and social media channels.
