Gonzales Racing team enjoy successful launch

-

A GROUP of five transition year students at Gorey Community School have created a model Formula 1 miniature race car and have already gotten the support from many Wexford businesses but are looking for the public’s support to get them over the finish line.

The team, named Gonzales Racing and made up of Tiernan O’Doherty, Cian Waters, Billy Trafford, Marcus Wallace and Seán Doyle, held a successful virtual launch event. Team manager Tiernan said that they had some very positive feedback.

‘Being the first team from Gorey to reach the national final of the F1 in Schools competition, we are really looking forward to being at the starting line on May 22 to competitively race our miniature F1 car that we have designed and built.

‘ The competition will judge overall innovation and design, marketing and production, as well as skills in engineering teamwork. We have been strongly supported by local businesses, schools and community services in Gorey and we are very grateful to all sponsors who have supported us.

‘Altura credit union is our gold sponsor and we’ve four silver sponsors, Brooks Supermarket, Fort Flowers, Marlfield House, Staffords Bakery and Dominic Smith, behind us, in addition to the bronze sponsors, Pirates Cove, Gorey Medical Centre and Doyles Associates.’
