Dave Youngman sees headquarters spring into life

IT is a really lovely time of year here at Newmarket with all the foals being born at the various stud farms. HOT SNAP was a big favourite with Henry Cecil when he trained her. She recently delivered a lovely colt foal by Frankel to follow the filly foal that she had by him last year. She will now be covered by Oasis Dream. I hope you like the photo of me with Hot Snap.

THINGS cranked up a gear recently with all the top stables back in force on the gallops. Sir Michael Stoute has been really busy with his string since his return from holiday and has all his horses cantering away well on the Al Bahathri and on the Railway Land gallop.

Ed Dunlop and Hugo Palmer have taken to their bikes to follow their strings out to the heath. Ed is very pleased with the Frankel filly out of Platonic under his care, rider Tegan Kerr has been aboard her in her canters on Warren Hill lately.

SIMON Crisford is pleased to announce the engagement of his daughter Georgina to Harry Charlton, the son of trainer Roger. Simon has recently taken charge of twoyear-old colts by Dark Angel, Raven’s Pass and Siyouni owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum and they look very nice types indeed.

ROGER Varian is very pleased with his juvenile filly by Frankel out of Danedream and she is showing nice promise in the way she is learning but Roger says he will be in no hurry to get her onto the racecourse and will geve her plenty of time.

Jockey Harry Bentley will be joining the Kremlin House team to work in tandem with Andrea Atzeni this season. There will also be plenty of opportunities for rider Jack Mitchell to further progress and build on a good winter riding for the yard.

SHEIKH Fahad Al Thani has sent William Haggas four juveniles. The Frankel filly is out of Beyond Desire and looks really nice. Also in the draft is a Galileo colt out of Sent From Heaven and William and Maureen think a great deal of this on. They have yet to be named but I will tell you as soon as they have been.

PHILIP Robinson is looking forward to starting his training career now the purchase of Carlburg Stables is completed from Clive Brittain. Clive will remain living in the house and has put a horse in training down the road with Lucy Wadham to keep an interest in the game. Philip looks set for a good time ably supported by some wealthy Chinese owners.

IT is a very exciting time later this month when the horses pull out to go over Racecourse side to do their first serious work of the year and we see if the geese have turned into swans.
