Betting Isn’t As Simple As Picking Winners!

Betting Gods have some advice for all kinds of punters

-

Many punters who have been gambling for years have probably settled into the routine of backing win or each-way only – but getting across the winning line often requires a little more thought!

Recently we’ve talked a lot about the possible ways to work out why horses should be backed. You may now be a fantastic reader of the form book.

You might have mastered the art of thinking like a trainer,or perhaps you’re a stats-lover and just know that some races are always won by horses carrying less than 11-0 stone.

The problem is,even if you’re great at all those things, you still have to decide the best way to bet on your selections – so here’s some food for thought!

MAXIMUM BET CLUB

I’ve read just about every self-acclaimed great gambler’s book, and many of them are ardent fans of the rule of only having a bet on a horse if you’re willing to place your maximum bet on it. It doesn’t matter if your 1 point bet is £10 or £1,000 – if you’re not willing to part with that much then don’t place the bet.

MULTI-POINT APPROACH

A multi-point approach is often adopted by those who love to bet more often that the Maximum Bet Club Boys. You might bet 5 points when you’re betting your maximum, but you may also place numerous smaller bets – often to keep up the entertainment levels that many of us require.

WIN OR EACH-WAY

Some professional punters maintain that you should only ever back to win, but I’m firmly of the opinion that you should judge each horse on its merits before deciding which way to bet.If you’ve got a horse at an each-way price that tends to always place, and has a genuine chance of winning, then the each-way option can often be a bet to nothing. However, if you’ve got a horse that usually either wins or pulls-up – then the place bet is probably a waste of time. Either way,if you’re deliberating between following tipsters who offer win only or each-way bets, then it’s important to consider both long-term return on investment and having the right size bank in place to cover their style of betting.

LAYING HORSES

If you’re struggling to pick the winner of a race, but you’ve managed to cross off one or more horses that can’t win – then stop trying to pick the winner and consider laying those non-winners. Again, make sure you’ve got a big enough bank to start with and, if you or the tipster you’re following has a good eye for losers, you’ll soon be a winner.

DUTCHING METHOD

Most of us just love the ideal of picking one horse and having a big bet on it, like, say Annie Power, but many shrewd protipsters are happy to bet on more than one horse in a race and back them all to win the same amount if one of them wins. Sure, this method doesn’t appeal to everyone, but again it’s all about the return on investment over a long period of time.

The great news is that Betting Gods have tipsters who follow all of these methods, so if you’re going to bet – bet like a Betting God!
