Andrew Ayres with his latest batch of eye-catchers

LINGFIELD MAY 24 (GOOD) 1m3f110y maiden (Class 5) Fair form

MANCINI (Jonathan Portman) is a massive individual who took the eye despite being in need of the run both physically and mentally. He proceeded to shape with plenty of promise in sixth and stepped up on that effort when second at Windsor 12 days later. He’s a half-brother to Monsieur Rieussec and Maybelater — both smart performers for the Portman yard — and he will win races.

KEMPTON MAY 24 (STANDARD) 6f two-year-old fillies novice (Class 4) Race that will produce winners

SPECIAL MISSION (Sir Mark Prescott) needed the run badly and looked set to finish in rear before rallying strongly to come home a promising seventh. She’s bred to appreciate further (dam was a 1m2f winner) and can leave this form behind when moved up in trip.

SCANDALEUSE (Sir Michael Stoute) is a strong, attractive filly but looked green in the paddock and lost all chance when flopping out of the stalls. She made a brief move before weakening in the straight, but left the impression there is more to come. Expect a better show next time.

1m3f handicap (Class 3) Impressive winner

WADIGOR (Roger Varian) totally outclassed his rivals in this moderately run event, scoring pretty much as he pleased after producing a sharp turn-of-foot from the furlong pole. This handsome colt is much better than a run-of-the-mill handicapper and will surely bag a decent prize, with something like the Ebor being a possible long term target.

GOODWOOD MAY 25 (GOOD) 6f two-year-old novice (Class 4) Useful form

MASAR (Charlie Appleby) is an attractive, scopey colt bred to stay beyond this trip (dam won the UAE Derby). He looked clueless through the early stages but swept through impressively from midway before showing a good attitude to get-up on the line. He’ll improve over 7f/1m and can make his mark in decent company.

INVINCIBLE ARMY (James Tate) is a well-grown, mature looking colt who was unlucky to get nailed late after hitting the front at the furlong pole. He was well backed on this debut and will be hard to beat in any ordinary maiden next time.

TATHMEEN (Richard Hannon) is a typically robust looking Hannon juvenile and attracted plenty of late support. He showed bright early speed before fading from the furlong pole and probably needed the outing. Newcomers from this yard often improve significantly for an outing and he can leave this form behind.

GOODWOOD MAY 26 (GOOD) 7f three-year-old fillies handicap (Class 4) Fair form

DELLAGUISTA (William Haggas) had been absent since winning an AW maiden in December but has continued to thrive physically and looked in great shape. She travelled strongly throughout and looked set to score before lack of match practice told from the furlong pole. She will improve for the outing and can bag a decent handicap this summer.

GOODWOOD MAY 27 (GOOD - GOODFIRM IN PLACES) 6f two-year-old fillies novice (Class 4) Ordinary race for the track MISSY MISCHIEF (Jeremy Noseda) is an

attractive, slightly leggy filly who proved easy to back near the off. She was never sharp enough to figure, but showed plenty of promise just behind the placed horses and jumped up a level when a creditable ninth in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot 25-days later. There’s a decent race in her.

GOODWOOD JUNE 2 (GOOD) 6f two-year-old novice (Class 5) Fair race

FROSTBITE (Eve Johnson Houghton) was a reasonably expensive purchase for this yard (£102,000) and appealed as a strong, sturdy type who would improve for the run.He showed plenty of dash before getting tired at the furlong pole and looks the sort who could pop up at a decent price in a similar race.

6f fillies and mares handicap (Class 3) Competitive heat

SOUTHERN BELLE (Robert Cowell) looked in tremendous shape but blew her chance by rearing as the stalls opened. In the circumstances she ran a belter to finish fourth and is probably still well handicapped.Southern Belle has the size and scope to develop into a smart sprinter and may just do that this summer /autumn.

SANDOWN JUNE 8 (GOOD-SOFT) 1m1f 209y three-year-old handicap (Class 3) Fair race

FRONTISPIECE (Sir Michael Stoute) looked relatively straight on this return from a 278-day break but proved easy to back and will probably come on for the run. With that in mind he deserves credit for displaying a likeable attitude to score narrowly. He’s an uncomplicated, well
