Who controls the remote in your house?

My wife, whose sole purpose in life seems to be to keep the remote away from me.

What are the main differences between performing on stage and on TV?

It’s very hard to compare the two: there’s a world of di erence. The smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd, the chip van outside the door… you don’t get that in Donnybrook. Also on stage, it’s just you and the audience – but on telly there’s a fellow stuck in the middle, called a cameraman.

Is there just too much good TV now to watch at all?

In a way there is, and too many channels as well. And herself is there on the couch, constantly switching between them. She can’t stand the sight of an ad, but she can watch three programmes at the one time – I never get to choose. I’m seriously thinking of getting a second telly…or else a new wife!

Which John B Keane play would make the best TV adaptation?

I’d have to say The Matchmaker. It is brilliantly funny and entertaining, with a host of amazing characters in true Keane style. This is de nitely one that could be adapted for TV.

What are your unmissable shows right now?

I enjoy Brendan O’Connor’s Cutting Edge and you couldn’t bate a bit of Fair City. I love cookery programmes too, and Ray D’Arcy, Ryan Tubridy, Miriam, Claire Byrne…I hope I didn’t leave anyone out or I’ll be in big trouble.

Was D’Unbelievables inspired by any particular comedy on TV?

Hall’s Pictorial Weekly and the great Cha and Miah.

What show would you like a cameo in?

I’d love a part in Poirot. I’d be the one in the dining room with the candlestick.

How many times have you re-watched the video of Limerick winning the All Ireland?

Many times. I especially love watching it in slow motion, savouring every puck of the ball.

Are there any genres of TV you just can’t abide?

Period dramas. My wife will watch anything with a bonnet in it – I’m

allergic to bonnets.

What huge watercooler show have you not seen?

Say Yes to the Dress. All the lads at my local love it but I don’t know what they’re talking about.
