Must-watch TV: Portrait Artist of

the Year (Sky One)

We wondered if this show would lose a lot of its appeal when Frank Skinner stepped away from presenting duties this season, but the less prominent Stephen Mangan has changed the dynamic in a good way, offering more space for the artists themselves to shine. Meanwhile, the roster of celebrity sitters continues to surprise.

Binge-worthy stream:

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo (Netflix)

Yes, we all scoffed at first, but now weekends previously spent watching footy, shopping or walking the dog are being spent wondering if joy can be found in the contents of drawers, and how much it would cost to hire a skip to clear out that spare room. So it goes.

Top Podcast:

Mothers of Invention Season one of this podcast paired comedian Maeve Higgins with former Irish president Mary Robinson. It highlighted ‘mothers of invention’ of all ages and cultures, and their optimistic solutions for a sustainable climate and an equitable world. For Season Two, the show moves to New York to get a closer look at how new feminist leaders in US politics are influencing climate justice.

Radio Waves:

6 Music (BBC Radio 6) As Guy Garvey hangs up his microphone to concentrate on finalising Elbow’s new album, the baton is being passed to our man Cillian Murphy who will assume DJ duties on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer. The Corkman is no stranger to the channel, having presented a number of music shows in the past. And he’s no stranger to the music scene, either, having started his career alongside his brother in a rock band before the acting bug bit.
