FOOTBALL CLUB: Michael McGowan Park looking great.

KEUFC were recently presented their well-deserved FAI Club Mark Star one Award on June 24, 2021. Well done to all involved.

Club volunteers wanted. With the resort being so busy we have offered our assistance for a weekend Sunday, July 18, meeting at toilet block at 8am. It’s for 2/3 hours and would appreciate club members to help out if free.

KEUFC under-12s played Strand Celtic in perfect conditions at Micheál McGowan park.

Strand came away 5-0 winners with an excellent display of marksmanship. A real team effort, they hit the ground running, being three nil up at half time. A shell shocked United regrouped and were unlucky not to have closed the gap, only for excellent goalkeeping and defensive work from Celtic. A warm day saw the difference in squads and Strand finished out comfortable winners. United were

missing a number of key players and would hope on another day to narrow the gap. They do however take the positives from the game and should be proud of their display. Credit to both sides and management on a well spirted competitive game.

Well done to our Finance Committee on their work and a massive thank you to all entrants for their support.

The draw takes place tomorrow, Friday, July 16.

Our Intermediate team suffered defeat when they lost to St Farnan’s by 2-13 to 1-10 in Templeboy in round two of the league.

The Enniscrone-KilglassSt Patrick’s minors lost to Shamrock Gaels by 2-19 to 2-5 in the league. They have a break in action now until August. Unfortunately, our under-15s came out on the wrong side of a cracking encounter with St John’s. It finished 6-11 to 5-12 in favour of the hosts at Cuilbeg.

Our under-13s earned a point after a thrilling draw with Tourlestrane, where it finished 4-7 to 3-10. They host Shamrock Gaels in their next match on Friday,

July 23, at 7pm.

Under-seven training continues every Saturday morning from 10am at Quigabar.

There is great excitement in Quigabar each Thursday evening from 6.15pm to 7pm with our youngest age group honing their skills. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Division 2 Castleconnor 0-06 v Ballymote 1-07. In a very tight and niggly affair played in greasy conditions in Corballa. The visitors emerged victorious by four points. Castleconnor were forced to line out without the injured Cian Barrins and Rory Healy. Castleconnor led 0-2 to no score at the first half water break after two Oisin Flynn frees. Ballymote got on the scoreboard after 18 minutes with a point from play and this was followed by a free from their keeper from 35m out on the left. Heading towards the break it was two each, but Ballymote fired two quick points in the 31st and 32nd minutes. The first was after a poor turnover from our own line ball and the second a quick move after they had won the kick out. This left it 0-2 v 0-4 to the visitors at the halftime whistle.

Within two minutes of the restart Ballymote fired a goal after a defensive slip up when there was no immediate danger. A good response with two points, the first an excellent score from Ronan Wilson after good work by Carrabine. Seán Carrabine followed with a free in the seventh minute from 25m out. However, Ballymote added two further frees to leave five points in it at the waer break. While we endeavoured to punish Ballymote on the scoreboard we could only add two further points from Seán Carrabine frees with Ballymote adding a further point from a free from their keeper. This left the final score at 0-6 v 1-7.

Team on duty was K Healy, R Keane, K Earlis, F Boland, P Cooney, E Kent, T Langan, P Flynn, B Howley, R Wilson (0-1), S Carrabine (0-3), O’Flynn (0-2), J Tully, M Cahill and L Munnelly. Subs used were E Flynn and R Winters.

Under-17. Castleconnor 8-9 v St John’s 2-8. The boys had an excellent away victory in a game played in Carraroe. Some fastflowing football in the first half with some excellent scores laid the foundation for this comfortable victory. Notable mention to Darragh Stenson and Michael Sheridan, who both bagged a hat-trick of goals. No competitive action now for a month but management are busy trying to line up a few challenge games for the group.

Team on duty was Fionn

Gordon, Pádraig Gavin, Barry Kilcullen, Lee Gilmartin, Cian Flynn, Darragh Flynn, Cathal Feeney, Stephen Rogan, Oisin Quinn, Eoghan Durkan, Michael Sheridan, Matthew Langan, Darragh Stenson Subs used: Seán Donegan, Séamus Foody, Paul Ruane, Danny Donegan and David Holmes.

Our under-13s welcomed Geevagh-St Michael’s to St Brendan’s Park. Both teams had won their first match and the visitors had a big win the previous week against Tubbercurry.

The first quarter we held most possession but struggled to put it on the scoreboard and a dangerous inside line for GeevaghSt Michael’s struck for an early goal past Rueben McMahon. We found our way back into the game with some points from
