Insulating your home: there are many benefits

- By Caitlin Donoghue

Installing insulation can cut your heating bill.

HOME insulation can have plenty of benefits, whether you do it yourself, hire a professional or apply for a grant, it is well worth it.

The first benefit being the savings that insulating your home will add up to each year, it can cut 10-50% off your heating bill. Insulating your house means heating systems don’t have to work as hard or long to warm up your home, saving you money. Home insulation will also increase comfort in the home all throughout the year. An insulated home will keep you warm in the winters and cool in the summers. Home insulation helps to prevent mold, dampness and damage to wallpaper or paint due to condensation during the wet winters. Many homeowners today are becoming more mindful of their impact on the environment and what they can do to help. Another benefit to household insulation is it will have a large impact on the reduction of thermal energy consumption, this reduces carbon emissions into the atmosphere and by reducing these emissions from your home, you can promote healthy sustainability in the environment.

Less heat loss is another benefit of home insulation. Heat rises and a poorly insulated roof means heat will rise and escape your home. The more insulation your household has, the less heat you lose. you’re also less likely to get sick as colder temperatures suppress our immune system.

Another benefit is that nsulation enhances the value of your home as it increases the BER rating. If you decide to sell your home the amount of money you put into insulation will pay you back tenfold. Even if you aren’t selling, gradually increasing the value of your home is not a bad thing.
