SAINT John’s, who remain on top of the Sligo Pallets Premier League, are one of just three sides that have yet to lose yet in the second tier of the Sligo-Leitrim District Soccer League.

The leaders were held to a 4-4 draw by Glenview Stars on the all-weather surface of MacSharry Park last Sunday.

Glenview Stars, boosted by a brace from Jake Drewe inside the opening 20 minutes, led 3-2 at half-time.

St John’s came back into it with two goals from Lucas Sosa, which made it 2-2 by the 40th minute, but Dermot McLoughlin restored Glenview’s advantage with a goal just before the interval.

Two goals from Anthony Johnston, St John’s top scorer, put St John’s 4-3 up after 75 minutes. The first of these two second-half goals from Johnston was a converted penalty.

But an 80th minute equaliser from Malcolm Reilly secured a draw for Glenview Stars and prevented St John’s from extending their lead at the top of the table – they are only a point ahead of second-placed Calry Bohs, who have a game in hand.

Up to third in the standings are Coolaney United, who won 3-2 against Gurteen Celtic. On target for the winners were Enda Gallagher, Cathal Davey and Steve Patton. the TP Brennan Connacht Junior Cup – last Sunday they lost 5-0 away to Galway’s Cois Fharraige in the provincial competition’s first round.

Goals from Hughie Marren, who scored twice, and Rhys Henry gave Chaffpool United the spoils against a Carrick Town outfit for whom Jack Barnes and Shane Beirne scored.
