Sligo’s seasonal tourist information centre will open this summer

-

AFTER much comment and expressions of concern by various commentators, it has been confirmed that Sligo’s tourist office on O’Connell Street will open in O’Connell Street this summer.

The opening of Fáilte Ireland’s seasonal tourist information centre has been made possible via a new partnership with Fáilte Ireland, Sligo BID, Sligo County Council and Sligo LEADER.

Located in the Old Bank Building, the tourist information centre will now be the home location for Sligo BID as well as a point of contact for visitors looking to find out more about Sligo and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Fáilte Ireland will continue operating its tourist information centre from the building for four months of the year, when demand for in-person tourism information services is at its highest with international visitors. Sligo BID and its local partners are initiating an ambassador training programme that will enable additional opening hours to visitors for the remainder of the year.

Gail McGibbon, CEO of Sligo Town, said, "I am delighted to the response to the suggestion for a partnership and we are looking forward to moving to the main street of Sligo Town as this will enable the rolling out of the Love Sligo voucher card launching later this summer."

Gary Breen, Head of Visitor Engagement at Fáilte Ireland added, "Continuing on with the investment in the capital projects in the North West, Fáilte Ireland is pleased to be working in partnership with Sligo BID, Sligo County Council and Sligo LEADER in providing tourism information and support to Sligo Town." Martin Lydon, Chief Executive of Sligo County Council, said, "We welcome the approach from Sligo BID in forming a partnership to reopen the tourist office and believe collaboration will always achieve more for the County, rather than organisations operating independently. This tourist office is a perfect example of this ethos.”
