Money raised through community event
Gardai in Ballymote and Gurteen organised a Christmas Community Lunch at the Coach House Hotel in Ballymote on Tuesday, December 6, 2022– this was a free event with a three-course meal and a raffle on the day. The choir from Colaiste Mhuire, Ballymote, joined us while people were arriving singing beautiful Christmas carols and songs.
Patrick Feeney joined us after the meal, providing music and entertainment to the delight of all attending. A local trad group also provided music and entertainment on the day and the Gardai would like to say a huge thank you to all the who made donations making this a free event for the community and also to everyone who donated spot prizes for the raffle. We would also like to thank the staff at the Coach House Hotel for a fantastic day.
It was a huge success and lots of fun and craic was had on the day.
The raffle money collected, a total of €1,608.14, will be donated to Aiveen Curley a two-year-old girl from Ballymote who was diagnosed recently with a rare progressive form of infantile scoliosis.
Schools visit to Garda station
Gardai in Ballymote and Gurteen have recently welcomed primary schools in the community who have come to visit Ballymote Garda Station.
We also welcomed UBU South Sligo Foroige Group who came and visited the Garda Station.
It is always lovely to have schools and clubs coming to visit and if any school or club would like to bring a group for a visit to the garda station please contact Ballymote Garda Station on 071 9189500 to arrange this.
Cheque presentation for hospice
On January 11, 2023, Garda Tara Lyons gave a cheque for €900 to North West Hospice after having a coffee morning recently at Ballymote Garda Station.
Thanks to everyone who donated.
Be visible when walking at night
The mornings and evenings are still dark and we urge all walkers/cyclists to please wear a hi-vis jacket while on the road.
If you do not have a hi-vis jacket please call into your local Garda Station and the Gardai will help you, alternatively log onto the RSA website to order one.
Please also be mindful of frost and fog – as these play a dangerous hazard for drivers this time of year – please slow down and please keep a safe distance from the car in front.
MIT checkpoints continue
Gardai in Ballymote District continue to carry out MIT – Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoints on a daily basis.
Please be mindful of drinking alcohol and driving the following morning – never ever drink and drive.
Check on your neighbours
Gardai would also like to ask communities to be mindful of people living alone this time of year – to check in with these people who may need shopping or just a friendly chat.
