New Nissan ARIYA offers intelligent EV mobility

- By Declan Glynn

BUILDING on Nissan’s strength as EV (Electric Vehicle) pioneers, the all-new Ariya features an outstanding Japanese-inspired crossover/ SUV design, which is set to take the powerful performance and capabilities of zero-emission vehicles to a new level.

The Nissan Ariya all-electric crossover is designed to not only impress EV buyers but to also demonstrate Nissan’s commitment to meeting a growing demand for new electrified, autonomous and connected technologies.

Two battery options are available, a 63kWh battery that delivers a range of up to 402 kilometres, and an 87kWh battery that offers a range of up to 529 kilometres, making the no-compromise Ariya perfect for daily commutes, or longer road trips.

With the Ariya, you get the choice of front-wheel-drive or all-wheeldrive, with all-wheel-drive versions available exclusively with the bigger battery, and you can get an ‘e-4ORCE’ performance version too. The entry-level Ariya produces 217bhp, with the range-topping model producing 394bhp.

The Ariya can charge at up to 130kW, ensuring drivers will be able to top the battery up from 10-80% in 35 minutes at a DC rapid charger. Charging at home from a 7kW wallbox charger will take 14 hours for a full charge (0-100%) with the larger battery, and 10 hours for the smaller unit.

The Ariya is available with two grade options – Advance and Evolve – both of which feature a host of innovative safety and infotainment systems as standard. Pricing for the entry-level 63kWh Nissan Ariya Advance starts from €48,995 (ex-delivery) and rise to €66,995 (ex-delivery) for the topof-the-range 87kWh Ariya Evolve (inclusive of Government grants where applicable).

My review car was an Ariya Evolve 87kWh which looked spectacular in its White Pearl metallic paintwork, glossy black trim and distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Ariya is a very refined and relaxed car to drive around town, while brisk acceleration allows for fuss-free motorway journeys too.

The Ariya’s light steering helps greatly with manoeuvring in and out of tight parking spaces, and this task is made all the easier by way of the cars’ brilliant 360-degree camera system in conjunction with parking sensors front and rear.

The Ariya’s excellent electric powertrain, and refined driving dynamics, along with its spacious upmarket interior and futuristic design makes it the most desirable, most exciting, and most technologically advanced car ever from the iconic Japanese brand.

The interior of the new Nissan Ariya redefines how drivers interact with technology.

The minimalist dashboard is devoid of the usual buttons and switches.

Primary control functions vibrate when touched and only appear when the car is switched on.

The reimagined interior allows for an entirely flat floor, resulting in a wide, open lounge-like experience. The Ariya hosts a wealth of advanced and easy-to-use technology that makes navigation, infotainment and connecting with your home and smartphone seamless.
