Ballymote get closer to leaders Gurteen

-

BALLYMOTE Celtic have closed the gap on leaders Gurteen Celtic to six points in the race for Sligo Pallets Premier League silverware.

Last Sunday’s 3-2 home win against Dromahair FC secured a 10th win – from 15 games – for Ballymote, who played their game in hand on Gurteen, who weren’t in action last weekend.

Cian Kilcoyne’s converted penalty – his 25th goal of an already remarkable season – earned Ballymote victory after their 2-0 lead was erased by a gutsy Dromahair. Goals from Oisin Brennan and Colm Duffy put the hosts 2-0 up. Luke Tansey’s brace brought Dromahair back into the proceedings but an 88th minute spot-kick gave Ballymote the opportunity to seize the result. Glenview Stars moved up to third place in the standings – they won

8-4 away to Ballygawley Celtic last Sunday.

The winners’ haul came via Clive Brennan’s hat-trick, a brace from Jake Drewe plus one apiece by Conor Rushe, Graham Reilly and Lucas Sosa. Striker Cathal Davey was Ballygawley’s hero – he scored four times.

Also on Sunday, Carrick Town drew 3-3 with Benbulben FC. On target for Carrick – the home side – were Shane Beirne, David Regan and Kyle Flynn. Benbulben’s goals came from Fola Ayorinde, who was in action recently for ATU Sligo’s Gaelic footballers in the Sigerson Cup, Oisin Gilmartin and Dion McCaffrey.

Elsewhere, third from bottom Kilglass-Enniscrone United were 4-2 winners at home against bottom of the table Strand Celtic Reserves.

The winners went 3-0 up by the

60th minute through goals from Oisin Arthur, Cian Boland and Matthew Langan.

Strand responded when Jared Tiernan scored and then Ryan Lynch’s goal made it 3-2. But KilglassEnniscrone made matters safe when they scored a fourth goal – Brandon Fitzgerald was on target.
