Mock wedding will raise money for good cause

-

EVERYONE likes a good wedding, but everyone loves a wedding full of laughs and craic. Even better a wedding where you don’t need to give a large gift or sit beside a cranky aunt or uncle.

Well, if this sounds like something you’d like, then Friends of Sligo University Hospital have an event for you.

On Friday, September 29, they will be hosting a mock wedding in Andersons Bar & Grill, in aid of the an Additional Needs Fund set up in conjunction with Friends of SUH. After a few tough years in the health service, Trish Kelly, Catering Supervisor within the hospital, felt that the staff could do with a moral boost and in addition to this organise a fundraiser for much needed funds.

As a mother of two children with autism that has used SUH many times over the years, Trish felt that the hospital could do with providing people with additional needs some extra supports. Trish along with catering staff and management have started an Additional Needs Fund.

This fund will be used for any service user or staff member with additional needs to enhance their experiences within the hospital. Let it be for a fidget spinner for distraction or a social story to provide information, the funds will be there to put this in place amongst many other ideas.

The mock wedding itself will be a night filled to the brim with nonstop entertainment with a mix of staff and actors from the Hospital Panto involved. Hospital staff Aoife and Adrian from the Catering Department will be hosting their ‘wedding’ along with their families and friends. Expect mayhem and laughter as ‘Fr Maurice Fitzpatrick’ (Staff member Colm Kielty) with his seminarian ‘Patrick Fitzmorris’ (Staff member Brendan Lowry) along with their trustee organist ‘Hanz Onn’ (Staff member Lee Cawley) will bring laughter, entertainment and gags from 8pm.

The night will include a Wedding Show like no other with finger food, raffle, music from The Pound Street Boys and disco the night away with

DJ Odhran Mahon til late.

Tickets are €15 and are on sale from Trish Kelly on 087 2539201 or Siobhan Brady on 087 9626626, donations can also be made to Friends of Sligo University in lieu of the Special Needs Fund.

The public are welcome to donate to the fund, even if they can’t make the event.
