Innisfree Wheelers raise funds for local Brain Injury Services
THE team at Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI Ireland) in Sligo and Leitrim have acknowledged the generosity and support from Innisfree Wheelers Cycling Club for the Community Brain Injury Service.
A large number of cyclists and back up team came out on September 9th to complete their annual 85k, Three Counties Tour raising €3,000 for the local brain injury service, located in Tonaphubble, and Wolfe Tone Street in Sligo. The club presented a cheque to Local Services Manger Teresa O’Boyle at their mid-Halloween Spin on Sunday 29th October in Castle Dargan Hotel.
ABI Ireland’s residential and community-based rehabilitation service situated in Sligo provides rehabilitation to those living with an acquired brain injury in the Sligo, Leitrim and West
Cavan area.
Rehabilitation helps brain injury survivors to rebuild their lives and to live an independent life in the community to the best of their ability following brain injury.
The service, which serves over 60 brain injury survivors monthly, is an essential service to this area, making life changing differences in the lives of those living with a brain injury.
In partnership with the HSE, ABI Ireland employs a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians to design individualised rehabilitation programmes for persons living with an acquired brain injury. Every brain is different, resulting in every brain injury and recovery process being different, and so every brain injury rehabilitation programme must be individual and tailor made to meet the needs of the person.
The sustainability and ongoing development of this service has been significantly aided by the people of Sligo and Leitrim, who continue to support our many fundraising initiatives and participate in the different fundraising activities. The Three Counties cycle, is planned, organised, and managed by the members of Innisfree Wheelers, a wonderful club that has, over the past 20 + years supported many charity organisations in Sligo. Local Services Manager, Teresa O Boyle said: “The money raised at this year’s cycle will stay local and will go toward on-going development of services in Sligo and Leitrim. Support from clubs such as Innisfree Wheelers, over the years, has helped to make a difference in the life of so many persons living with a brain injury and for this we are hugely appreciative.”
