Following a warm welcome announcing plans for the development of a 105-acre site to be known as Cloonamahon Native Woodland Park, officials from Sligo County Council have been asked to get in touch with the HSE who own the site at Cloonamahon to find out what progress has been made on plans

Uisce Éireann has given a written commitment to review water mains issues in the Carney area where locals have reported problems with their water.

With locals reporting various issues with water colour and quality the water authority said they “were aware of issues” raised in Carney and would “potentially” include it in their programme of works when they review the area.

Responding to Cllr Marie Casserly who had asked Sligo County Council to write to Uisce Éireann to outline the urgency of having new water pipes fitted at Finnid in Carney as soon as possible, the water authority stated:

“Uisce Éireann works closely with Sligo Co Council to identify and prioritise water mains for inclusion in our mains rehab programme. We are aware of issues raised in Carney and will review this area with a view to potentially including in our 2024 programme of works.”

Speaking at Monday’s meeting of

Lighting at Rosses Point car park must be prioritised

Cllr Fox said there had been a surge in population in the Rosses Point area in recent years and some services such as the provision of public lighting did not match that growth in population and the need for additional public lighting. Seeking specific funding for public lighting to be extended to Rosses Point beach carpark, he said many people were using that road which was “just as busy” in winter months as it is in the summer months. “People enjoy a walk out there at any time of year so it would be welcome if we could have funding to provide lighting down to the end of the car park. I believe this should be prioritised given the huge increase in population in the area,” he said. Cllr Marie Casserly, supporting the motion, explained that while the area alluded to by her colleague was not far from Rosses Point village, it was “pitch dark” in the wintertime with no light whatsoever there.
