Impressive win for Sligo women against OLBC

-

SOPHIE Kinghan scored a hat-trick of tries last Sunday as Sligo Rugy Club’s senior women’s team recorded an eventually decisive 26-5 home win against Galway’s Our Lady Boys Club (OLBC) in round three of the Bank of Ireland Connacht Senior Women’s League. Strandhill’s Aoife Gormley scored the home side’s fourth try at Hamilton Park and Giselle Gallagher contributed three conversions as Sligo secured a second win in three games – they hammered Creggs 50-8 last month, scoring eight tries, but then lost 17-5 away to Westport earlier this month.

Last Sunday’s first-half was closely-fought, with each team reliant on their respective packs for game progress, and there were just two points between the sides at the break, 7-5. Sophie Kinghan was Sligo’s first-half tryscorer and this five-pointer was converted by Giselle Gallagher. OLBC notched a try in that first-half – their only score.

Sligo cut loose in the second-half – their ball movement and pace paid dividends as Sophie Kinghan scored two more tries and Aoife Gormley, who has moved up to the senior ranks via the club’s player pathway programme, also dotted down to earn a try bonus point.
