Planning granted for major housing development in Sligo town
PLANNING permission has been granted for one of the most significant housing developments in Sligo in some time.
Boyle based construction company Mulryan Construction Limited received permission last week to build 53 new residential units on a 1.19-hectare site near Summerhill College.
Danny Mulryan of Mulryan Construction, which has been operating across the north west for more than 30 years, told the Sligo Weekender last week that he was pleased to confirm that permission has been granted for the project.
A multi-million-euro project, industry sources suggest an average of €250,000 per unit, giving some level of indication of the commercial importance of this project.
Mr Mulryan said that all going to plan he estimated construction would start in roughly six months. He agreed that it was well documented that there is significant demand for housing in Sligo and the north west and this development would address some of this but added that it was accepted also that more housing is needed in Sligo town and county.
The development includes 19 one-bedroom duplex units, 15 two bedroom apartments, 19 (three or four) bedroom duplex units.
The works will involve the creation of a new site access from Circular Road that includes a raised tabletop with a controlled pedestrian crossing, car parking, bicycle parking, foul pumping station, sustainable drainage system, street lighting, open space, landscaping, and all ancillary works at the townlands of Magheraboy and Caltragh, Circular Road. Sligo, subject to 24 conditions set out in the schedule.
