CHRISTMAS WREATHS: SUMMERHILL COLLEGE ABBOTT STEM PROGRAMME GRADUATION:
The college extends a massive congratulations to Transition Year students Daniel McSharry, Michael McDonnell, Cillian Murphy, Odhran Buckley, Odhran Gilmartin, and Kyle Spollen, who graduated from Abbott Diagnostic’s TY STEM Programme. During this programme students gained an insight as to how STEM is applied in the professional world. They experienced quizzes, talks from STEM leaders and senior leaders about their day-to-day lives at Abbott, and participated in mock interviews. Most importantly, these students had to create a STEM project alongside other students. Their participation in the module was a rewarding experience for all six boys. Through this programme the doors to a world of new knowledge was opened and the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators have been shaped. This programme not just educated our students but has inspired them to become the STEM leaders of tomorrow which was evident during the presentation of their projects at their graduation.
Our Transition Year students have successfully completed their CPR Life Skills Programme and are now transferring their knowledge and skills by training up some of our first years.

As part of a group that will be making a scale model on behalf of Sligo Airport, TY students Samuel Cunningham, David Aves, Kyle Spollen, and Odhrán Gilmartin were offered the chance to tour the airport on November 16. This was conducted to aid with the development of the scale model, thanks to Noel Jennings, the airport’s accountable manager. The boys, and Mr. Cregg, were greeted by Jennings at the very moment they stepped foot on the airport’s grounds. Jennings conducted a tour of the airport’s premises for the team prior to their flight, which was piloted by Ruadhán. The flight, which lasted twenty minutes, gave the boys a chance to take aerial photographs

They will also be VIP guests at Sligo Airport’s upcoming airshow next year.
