CSSC MEMBERS EXCEL AT A SCHOOLS MEET
MEMBERS of County Sligo Swimming Club (CSSC) excelled at the Connacht Senior Schools Championship that took place on Sunday last, January 14, at the Longford Sports & Leisure Centre. These swimmers from CSSC were representing various Sligo secondary schools. Each swimmer could enter up to two individual events and relays.
Along with numerous personal bests, five CSSC swimmers won medals and some of these results earned them places with Connacht for the Irish Schools Interprovincial Championships that take place in March.
The medal winners from County Sligo Swimming Club at this meet included Matthew O’Grady, Jake Noone, Lily O’Grady, Grace Newell and Helena Griffiths-Maher
Matthew O’Grady won silver in the 100 metres backstroke (boys 15-16 age group) and Jack Noone’s bronze came in the 100 metres backstroke (boys 15-16 age category).
There was also bronze for Lily O’Grady, who was third overall in the 200 metres individual medley (girls 15-16 age category).
There were two medals for Grace Newell, both bronze, who swam in the girls 13-14 age category. Her medal finishers were in the 100 metres backstroke and the 100 metres freestyle.
Helena Griffiths-Maher, who also swam in the girls 13-14 age category won a silver medal in the 100 metres butterfly discipline.
Meanwhile, County Sligo Swimming Club’s club captain Daniel Rattigan broke a minute for the first time in the 100 metres freestyle (boys 17-18 age category). His terrific time was 59.90 seconds.
