Taheny goes close indoors

ERIN Taheny, the excellent Corran AC sprinter, came agonisingly close to a medal in last Saturday’s 123.ie National U-20 and U-23
Indoor Championships at the TUS International Arena, Athlone.
Competing in the final of the U-23 Women 60 metres race, pacy Taheny clocked 7.96 seconds for fourth place – she was just 0.03 seconds off the third-placed Hannah Aspell, Celbridge AC, who took bronze.
Indeed, Taheny was only 0.06 seconds slower that silver medallist Aisling Kelly of UCD AC. Taheny won her heat with a time of 8.00 seconds.
Sligo’s only medal was won by Caoimhe McDonagh, South Sligo AC, who was second in the U-23 Women Triple Jump event – her leap for silver was 11.24 metres.
Corran AC were also represented by the Clavin brothers, Ben and Barry. Ben qualified for the final of the U-20 Men 800 metres where he was placed fifth overall on a time of 1:59.21. He was marginally faster than his heat, in which he was third on 1:59.51.
