Mercy College reach an LGFA provincial final

The senior Ladies Football team from Sligo town’s Mercy College have qualified for the Connacht LGFA Post Primary Schools Senior ‘D’ Championship final – this is the school’s first provincial decider at senior level since 2003.
On Monday of this week they defeated Castlebar’s Davitt College by two points, 3-8 to 3-6, in the Connacht semi-final at Swinford Amenity Park. The winners’ goalscorers were Heather Cotter, Chloe Burns and Anna McDaniel, who converted a penalty in the closing stages to seal the result. Managed by Eastern Harps’ Lisa Casey, with Emma Norman assisting, the Mercy College face Galway’s Coláiste na Coiribe in the final – the date and venue have yet to be confirmed. Rovers women re-sign two more players
Two more players have re-signed for the Sligo Rovers senior women’s squad for the coming season as Allice Lillie (Ballinafad) and Keeva Flynn (Castleconnor) will be part of the group managed by Tommy Hewitt. Last year Flynn, a defender, became the youngest player to feature for Rovers – at 15 years and 234 days – when she made her senior debut away to Belfast club Cliftonville in an Avenir Sports Women’s All-Island Cup fixture.
