With four kids, we learned that once you have more than two, no one wants to see you coming on Christmas Day, so we spend it at home. The younger two could be awake from half five on Christmas morning seeing what Santa has brought. Then we go to Ciaran's sister's house in town and she'll make breakfast for us with sausages and eggs. When we get back to ours. Ciaran will have most of the cooking done by then, and we try to have dinner at three, but it depends what movies are on. Last year Ciaran and I sat down after dinner and watched a film while the kids did the clean-up.

I love Christmas Eve, though, and we have an open-door policy. Ciaran will put on a pot of chowder or noodles and heat it up as people call in.

On Stephen's Day this year, and I haven't done it in years, I'm spending it with my mum at home. She was so excited when I told her we were coming. She said, ‘It's going to make my Christmas.’ That really touched me. She was all worried about beds and everything but we're just going to bring sleeping bags and extra pillows and just crash out.

For me and Ciaran as a couple, we'll have friends over for a meal a week before Christmas and make really good food, in that Ciaran will put a lot of thought into it.

For me, Christmas Eve is for the adults; Christmas Day is for the kids and Stephen's Day, with the Wren boys and me going home, is about my upbringing.
