Conor Lenihan joins founders of exclusive Lambay Island private club

FORMER junior minister Conor Lenihan is on the founding committee of a newly established exclusive members’ club based on Lambay Island, off north Co Dublin.

The Island Club is described on its website as “a place for the bold and inquisitive to imagine, discuss and create”.

Its principal founders are Alex and Millie Baring, members of the Revelstoke family, which owns the island. Alex Baring holds the title of Lord Revelstoke.

“The Island Club is a family-run business. Our aim is to protect Lambay by sharing this extraordinary isle with a carefully shaped community of like-minded individuals, who will gain business and personal value from both the venue and the network,” the club’s website says.

“We treasure attributes such as loyalty, honesty, transparency and believe that a community of bold and imaginative people based on these values can have a powerful impact.”

Lenihan, the former Fianna Fail minister of state for science, technology, innovation and natural resources, is a member of the founding committee chosen “to help us shape the club and select the first founder members”, the website says.

Lenihan recently worked as vice-president of the Skolkovo Innovation Centre in Russia, which is led by Viktor Vekselberg.

With his role in the Island Club he will be part of the Revelstokes’ efforts to build “an exceptional community, with a strong focus on diversity of age, gender and expertise.

“We believe huge potential lies in the intersection of industries and disciplines,” the club’s website says.

“Therefore we are building a diverse network of dynamic individuals to explore the possibilities... Ever since the Revelstoke family bought Lambay in 1904, the island has been a place where brilliant minds have gathered and connected.

“We want the Club to keep this ethos alive and create the ultimate innovative space.”
