Sharon Smurfit to tie knot with Emmet in sunny Majorca
It’s not just all discerning Irish private jets that will be whizzing their way to Majorca in a few weeks for a big Irish wedding beano.
No — I imagine that a certain €50m luxury yacht will be making its way from its berth at Marbella too for this very important occasion on this, the chicest of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean.
The super-yacht I am referring to is the Lady Ann Magee, owned by the illustrious Irish magnate Dr Michael Smurfit.
Which, my spies in that part of the world tell me, is mooted to be making the journey.
And why not? Well, because this is a particularly special soiree, as it is Sharon Smurfit’s wedding party to her long-term beau Emmet Savage.
So expect everyone from the beaming mother of the bride Norma Smurfit, as well as various other Smurfits from far and wide, to say nothing of the likes of Sharon’s pals like Deirdre Kelly.
The prepossessing Director of Golf at the K Club in Kildare, Shazza — who was married before to Jack O’Brien — got engaged to Emmet in December, 2012.
She told her parents, Michael and Norma, over dinner in Dublin her good news. “They were both thrilled,” Sharon told me in 2012, adding that dashing Emmet — whom she had been dating for five years prior to the engagement — proposed to her on Sandymount beach.
“The ring is a beautiful antique ring, Emmet and I are delighted.”
“I am thrilled for Emmet and Sharon,” their friend Deirdre Kelly also told me in December 2012.
“A day out to look forward to.”
So it appears, as Majorca readies itself for the summer wedding of the year.
