Building sites shut down over fears of asbestos contaminat­ion

BUILDING sites across Co Wicklow have been sealed off over fears they may have been contaminat­ed with asbestos from a local quarry.

The cancer-causing mineral was detected in Ballinclar­e Quarry after testing last month. The owner, the Kilsaran Group, is to test for and remove contaminat­ed products.

Body of man in his 50s found in park

THE body of a man was recovered from a stream in St Anne’s Park at Raheny in north Dublin yesterday morning.

The man, believed to have been in his 50s, was discovered at around 8am. His remains were removed to hospital. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Protesters ‘celebrate the Eighth’

HUNDREDS of anti-abortion protesters turned out to “celebrate the Eighth” at a pro-life march in Dublin city centre yesterday.

The event was held to highlight the “positive impact” the Eighth Amendment has had on Ireland.

Man’s death in popular nightspot

A MAN died following a suspected heart attack at a popular city centre spot, early yesterday morning.

Gardai believe that the 40-year-old man suffered a heart attack before falling down stairs at Pantibar on Dublin’s Capel Street. He was pronounced dead in hospital.

No winner of €3.5m Lotto jackpot

THERE was no winner of last night’s €3,479,870 Lotto jackpot. The numbers were 4, 32, 34, 35, 43, 47 (bonus 31). Plus One were 2,4, 9, 34, 36, 39 (bonus 28). Plus Two were 21, 26, 27, 29, 40, 43 (bonus 1). The raffle drew 9414.

Festival celebrates active ageing

THIS year’s Marigold Festival, which celebrates healthy and active ageing, takes place at St Anthony’s Centre, Clontarf, Dublin 3, on Friday July 1 from 10am-4pm.

The event includes healthy mind and body workshops, fashion, music, hobbies, nutrition and a range of speakers. It is organised by Active Retirement Ireland and Homestead Senior Care.
