THE COCKLESHEL­L HEROES

(1955) More4, 11.15am A true life tale of courage during the Second World War, starring Trevor Howard. A clash ensues between Royal Marine senior officers when newly promoted Major Stringer comes up with a plan of breaking the blockade at Bordeaux harbour. His idea is to train a team of commandos to paddle 70 miles up the Gironde estuary and use limpet mines to sink the Nazi warships that are anchored there. Unfortunat­ely for Stringer, his second in command, Captain Thompson, disagrees with his experiment­al methods. STEVE JOBS (2015) Sky Cinema Premiere, 8pm Hard hitting biopic directed by Danny Boyle, starring Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslett. A look into the mind of the amazing man behind Apple in a hard-hitting exploratio­n of the genius’s life. The action takes place backstage at three iconic product launches in 1998, including with the grand unveiling of the iMac. THE BRAVE ONE (2007) TG4, 9.30pm Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard co-star in this thriller, directed by Neil Jordan. A talented radio DJ’s life is thrown into turmoil after she and her fiance are violently attacked during a walk in Central Park. To her abject horror, her intended is murdered and she is left badly injured. She turns things around by buying a gun and she goes on a rampage of vengeance against criminals that need to be taken off the streets. However, a dedicated detective is on her tail, can he catch up with her?

TUESDAY

THE MAGDALENE SISTERS

(2002) 3e, 9pm Heart-wrenching drama, starring Anne-Marie Duff, Dorothy Duffy, Nora-Jane Noone and Geraldine McEwan. In 1960’s Ireland, three young women are made to pay for their ‘sinful’ behaviour and are sent to a Magdalene asylum. Once there, the girls are subjected to hard labour and sadistic punishment­s. While some don’t survive the harsh treatment, others decide to fight back against their tormentors.

BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP

(2014) Film4, 9pm Psychologi­cal thriller, based on SJ Watson’s novel, starring Nicole Kidman and Mark Strong. Christine is told by her husband Ben that she suffers from psychogeni­c amnesia and has consequent­ly lost all memory of the previous 14 years. Christine is encouraged by neuropsych­ologist Dr Nasch, to record a video diary in the hope that it will help her to rebuild her memories. To her delight, it works, but she soon begins to question both of the men’s motives. BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON (2014) ITV2, 9pm Romantic comedy sequel, starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. Our lovelorn heroine is starting to question her relationsh­ip with Darcy. Her predicamen­t is not helped when her ex-lover Daniel returns to the scene and tries to woo her with the prospect of an exotic holiday. Will she grab the chance to head off into the sunset with Daniel, or remain at home with a good honest man like Darcy? One thing is for sure, things won’t run smoothly.

WEDNESDAY

NONE SHALL ESCAPE (1944) More4, 11.15am Dark drama about the life of a German military officer, starring Marsha Hunt and Alexander Knox. Following the Great World War, Wilheim Grimm returns to a village on the German/ Polish border, where his actions cause him to be cast out of the community. As his cynicism grows, he becomes drawn to the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. He soon rises through the ranks, committing further atrocities. His story is told via testimonie­s of witnesses at during his trial for war crimes. PERRIER’S BOUNTY (2010) Channel 4, 1.55am Comedy crime thriller, starring Cillian Murphy, Jodie Whittaker and Jim Broadbent. A bounty is placed on a man’s head when he fails to pay a debt to a nasty Dublin gangster. Michael isn’t keen to hang around while there are mobsters about, so goes on the run with his neighbour Brenda and his father. However, Brenda knows more than she’s letting on and his dad has been behaving strangely. Will Michael survive to tell the tale?

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

(2004) Film4, 9pm Director Roland Emmerich returns to mass destructio­n on a global scale, this time when the ill-effects of global warming end up washing a destructiv­e wave of different meteorolog­ical disasters across the planet. After the world’s weather spirals out of control, Jack Hall — the only man to speak out about such possibilit­ies — must risk his life to rescue another group of survivors, including his son. Jake Gyllenhaal stars.

ThUrSDAY

2 GUNS (2013) Film4, 9pm Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington star in this actionpack­ed, bullet-filled adaptation of Steven Grant’s graphic novel series. Two undercover agents, unaware of the other’s status, try to frame each other to bring down a Mexican drug lord. When their plans go belly up they must learn to work together, especially when they become fugitives on the run from the DEA, CIA and US Navy. Learning to put their difference­s aside may be easier said than done, but it’s the only way to make it out alive. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS (1987) ITV4, 9pm Timothy Dalton often gets looked over for his performanc­es as super spy James Bond, but his debut is a thrilling adventure that set him up as a strong successor to Roger Moore. Agent 007 is sent to oversee the defection of a KGB general, but after the Russian is kidnapped, Bond follows him around the globe to stop the evil forces behind the plot. HALL PASS (2011) 3e, 9.50pm The Farrelly Brothers direct the duo of Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis in a flailing comedy about two guys who are having trouble in their marriages, and keep eyeing up beautiful women they come across. Their wives have had enough and give them “hall passes”, which allow them one week off; no marriages, no commitment­s, and a free rein to do whatever they want. It can only end in tears...

FrIDAY

I, ROBOT (2004) E4, 8pm Will Smith stars in this blockbuste­r adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic short story. When the chief designer of the leading robotics company is found dead, supposedly via suicide, a technophob­e detective doesn’t believe it. He thinks that one of the designer’s creations is the culprit, and when one of them makes a run for it, Spooner’s investigat­ion unearths a dark secret at the core of a huge conspiracy. THE INTERN (2015) Sky Movies Premiere, 8pm The heartwarmi­ng story of 70-yearold retiree Ben (Robert De Niro), who is looking for a challenge in his later years. He decides to sign up for an internship with an online fashion site, where he works under its young CEO Jules (Anne Hathaway). Though she is initially hesitant of having an intern, the two begin to work together and appreciate what they can learn from each other. YOU’RE NEXT (2013) Film4, 10.50pm In a bloody love letter to the slasher genre, Adam Wingard’s highly entertaini­ng home invasion horror flick sees a welloff family gather together for a big reunion in their isolated country mansion. Things take a turn when masked intruders start picking them off one by one, using the most violent methods possible. It’s up to Erin, the quiet girlfriend of one of the sons, to lead the fight against the killers, but it soon becomes clear that something even more sinister is going on. Sharni Vinson stars.

SATUrDAY

MONSTERS, INC. (2001) RTE1, 7.05pm Pixar’s heartwarmi­ng and witty tale of what monsters do for a living is still up there with their very best. It follows the fuzzy Sulley (John Goodman) and cyclops pal Mike, (Billy Crystal), two hard-working employees in Monstropol­is’ powerplant who use their scaring skills to aquire the screams of human chilrderel­aennladnd — the fuel that runs the city. Right when they are about to topple the company’s top scaring record, they unknowingl­y bring a young girl into their world, which quickly leads to chaos, a company conspiracy and a lot of laughs; it’s a real scream. MIAMI RHAPSODY (1995) RTE2, 11pm This 1990s comedy tells the story of Gwyn, (Sarah Jessica Parker) who wants nothing more for herself than to be married to a guy whose relationsh­ip she can compare to her parents’. Current boyfriend Matt is alright for Mr Right Now, but his surprise proposal takes her off guard and she soons begin to have doubts, especially when some family secrets come to the surface.
