‘Every time I haggle, I end up paying more. I don’t think I quite understand the concept...’

COLIN Mochrie is a Canadian actor and comedian who is best known for his appearance­s on the TV impersonat­ion show, Whose Line Is It Anyway. He has also starred in the American sitcom The Drew Carey Show. He was born in Scotland but moved to Canada when he was a young boy. He is married to the comedienne Debra McGrath, and they have one son, Luke.

Mochrie will be performing in Dublin’s Vicar Street on October 27 with The Improv All Stars. He will also be performing in the Vodafone Comedy Carnival Galway on October 29 and 30 with co-star Brad Sherwood.

What’s your favourite coin or note? The Canadian five dollar bill. People say it looks like me. I love money that reminds me of me. What’s the most expensive country you’ve ever visited? Britain was always expensive for us because of the exchange rate. I don’t know how people live in London. What’s the most expensive thing about being a parent? Having a child. Are you better off than your parents? Yes, they never appeared on television. Apart from property, what’s the most expensive thing you have ever bought? A Subaru Legacy. What was your worst job? I wore a chicken costume and handed out coupons for a fried chicken franchise. I was attacked by a Doberman. What was your biggest financial mistake? Becoming an improviser. What was your best financial killing? I’m looking forward to that happening. Do you use any money-saving apps? I didn’t know there was such a thing. I’m old. Do you use Android or iPhone? iPhone Do you know what’s in your bank account? Yes, I use online banking every day to check up on my account because I’m paranoid. Have you ever made an insurance claim? No. Have you ever switched utility provider? No. What was the last thing you bought online? Laceless black leather sneakers. Yes, I am outrageous. iTunes or Spotify? iTunes Would you buy property now? I would if I was a multi-millionair­e. I figure I’d probably buy a nice apartment in Manhattan. Do you use cash or card? I try to use cash as often as I can. It’s for the same reason that I read real books as opposed to e-books. Do you ever haggle? Every time I haggle I pay more. I don’t think I quite understand the concept.
