HAPPY NEW YEAR Rosh Hashanah, RTE1, 5.45pm

To mark the dawning of the Jewish New Year, this special follows the lives of three young Jews in Dublin. Sharing their thoughts on their faith and community, Joshua Boyle, Sarah Nelkin and Josh Barling reflect on what it means to them to have been raised with Jewish traditions, as the trio prepare for their Bar-Mitzvah — or in Sarah’s case, a Bat-Mitzvah — a big day of history and celebratio­n for them.

FANCY FOODS Lords & Ladles, RTE1, 6.30pm

The chefs continue their travels to find the meals that connect with Ireland’s roots. Paul Flynn heads out on a hunt with Pat O’Doherty — producer of the famous Fermanagh Black Bacon — for a herd of wild pigs on an island in Lough Erne, then takes a lesson in cheese-making at Corleggy Cheese in Belturbet, Co Cavan. Elsewhere, Derry Clarke is on a hunt of his own, as he attempts to recreate a hunt supper from 1908, featuring such delights as Pudding a la Diplomate and turkey boiled with oysters.

The vast plains of Africa are home to the most iconic (and cute) animals on planet Earth. Safari babies face immense challenges and with dangerous predators around every corner, the African savannah is a hugely competitiv­e place.

SWEEPING DRAMA Poldark, BBC1, 9pm

Our headstrong hero has put his family in danger once again by agreeing to get involved in a smuggling racket. It’s not long before there’s an informant in their midst, which poses a sizeable threat to the Poldarks. Elsewhere, Elizabeth reveals a big secret, does it concern Ross?
