DARREN KENNEDY

Recommends the perfect frames for you

-

CHOOSING a pair of glasses isn’t an exact science. Of course, you have to take things like face shape and colouring in to account, but sometimes a pair just speaks to you, and there’s something about them you have to have.

“I started wearing glasses when I was 13,” says Darren. “I’d started secondary school, and ended up sitting down the back surrounded by jokers. I remember thinking this is going to go well, but didn’t want to draw attention to myself so I told my mum I needed to sit nearer the board. Be careful what you wish for because she took me for an eye-test and discovered I was short sighted!” he laughs.

Darren says his relationship with Specsavers as a brand has developed very organically, and he loves curating his edit of their slickest frames every season. “I’ve hosted the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition a couple of times and done work with the company in both the UK and Ireland. After I designed my suit collection, this collaboration seemed like a natrual progression.

“Growing up I didn’t like having to wear my glasses but now I love them. I don’t have to wear them 100pc of the time, but I like to – in some respects they are part of my identity nowadays.”

Here Darren explains why he chose some of the frames he did, with an eye on the coming Autumn/Winter season.

Available exclusively at all 50 Specsavers Ireland stores nationwide now, the Darren Kennedy Recommends autumn collection consists of six male and six female frames, retailing from €129 to €199. They are also included in Specsavers’ two for one offer.
