Spilling the beans

TASTE OF THE WILD

Deirdre and James Cunningham’s former Mulberry’s at Barna, Co Galway, has morphed into the hip new Dulse Restaurant & Pantry, in partnership with chef David O’Donnell. No doubt the red seaweed will feature, as the whole culinary vibe at Dulse will focus on the Wild Atlantic Way, sourcing local produce from farmers, fishermen, breeders and providers, resulting in gourmet food to eat in or take away. The trio say they want Dulse to be accessible and flexible, with cooking that is not overly technical, but allows the pure flavours of the local ingredients to tell their own story. AH, GO ON, GO ON, GO ON

Heading north west? For lunch, or a really swell afternoon tea, head to The Village Tearooms in pretty Dromahair, Co Leitrim. Here, you can indulge in delights including croissants, quiches, chocolate eclairs and hummingbird cakes, to the gentle rustle of Japanese lanterns overlooking the River Bonet. Paul O’Connor, head judge for the Republic of Ireland, tells me the plan is to rotate the event; next year’s will be held in Dublin, and profits will go to a children’s charity in the ROI.
