Daniel and his Maj heating up Tenerife
He can’t be good at everything, can he? Ireland’s foremost singer, entertainer, TV star and all-round good guy Daniel O’Donnell is honest enough — apropos of the all-important Christmas Day food preparation — to admit the following to your diarist: “I’m no good at the cooking.”
(Debonair, dashing Donegal dreamboat Daniel might be from the fishing village of Kincasslagh, but he never fishes for compliments.)
“I do the washing up,” he added. “You need to know your place.”
The superstar continued that he and his beautiful other half, Majella are jetting out to their place in Tenerife for the Yuletide.
“It is our first time ever out of Ireland for Christmas,” he told me. “We’re going with Majella’s mother Marion, plus Majella’s daughter Siobhan and her husband Gavin and their baby Olivia, as well as Majella’s son Michael and his girlfriend Sarah.”
Daniel, who flew back from America last week, recorded a show in the Convention Centre in Dublin which will be aired on RTE 1 at 9.30 on Christmas Eve.
As if that wasn’t enough fun and excitement to last us the entire Christmas, Daniel and his Maj(esty) have pre-recorded the Christmas message on TV3 at 3pm on Christmas Day.
At that time, of course, Maj will be lifting up the turkey and all the trimmings for her husband and the family in Tenerife — where she and young Daniel Francis Noel O’Donnell first met at her parents’ bar 15 years ago.
Majella told me in an interview last year of their fateful first meeting: “We were on the dance floor.
“And as we were dancing, he leaned over and he kissed me!”
Doubtless there’ll be plenty of that beneath the mistletoe in Tenerife between Maj and Danny Boy over the Crimbo.
