The Loves Of My Life

Laura Whitmore’s every wish

The person Mick — though he’s a dog. I got him for my 30th birthday, and I now can’t imagine life without him. He’s a proper little character and comes to work with me a lot. I think most people are more pleased to see him than me. Stephen Billington, who stars in the play Not Dead Enough with me, has a large German Shepherd called Billy, who is about 10 times Mick’s size. Mick bosses him about backstage. The memory Glastonbury last year was pretty epic! Watching the sun set, listening to live music with mates. I’m a music girl. I love being surrounded by it. I remember we stumbled upon an Irish trad session at two in the morning, and it was so much fun. The moment of the day Sunset. Everything just looks so beautiful and you remember we are only a tiny part of this universe. The song At the moment, I’ve a bit of a running joke with Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling. The movie

The Commitments. I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was the coolest film ever: the songs, the setting, the characters. Once, when I was studying in Boston, we had all my Irish mates get together in our tiny little flat and watch it. You can’t help but be nostalgic. The hero My mum. She’s worked so hard her whole life and always supported my crazy decisions. The book

Matilda by Roald Dahl. It was my favourite book as a child. I love Dahl’s imagination and how he makes this strong, feisty little girl come to life! The outfit Skinny jeans, a printed shirt and biker boots. Comfort first! I also love wearing a fitted suit. It gives you an immediate feeling of power. The accessory A leather jacket. I own too many and yet not enough. The gadget iPhone (I literally can’t survive without it). The pet hate Dishonesty, especially silly lies — lying for the sake of lying. Communication and honesty solve any misunderstanding. The hotel I love the Marker Hotel in Dublin — it has a beautiful pool and is located beside the Liffey, which is where my Dad grew up. They do excellent cocktails. The beauty product Rodial Dragon’s Blood Hyaluronic tonic. Spritz it on over or under make-up and it freshens the skin up. The friend Dee — we’ve been through a lot together. She showed up to the first preview of the play when I didn’t want anyone there. She came by herself, as she said she thought I’d want a friendly face and honest feedback. She’s the best! We’ve been there for each other through highs and lows. The holiday Coachella — a festival and sun! The dream. I’ve spent the last three years there, and it’s just beautiful. The advice Have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not the life others expect of you. The drink A margarita. I’m actually very good at making them, too! You need the salted rim, though. The bar The Harbour Bar in Bray. It has great live music. I’ve been going since I was a teenager. The hobby Bikram yoga. It’s my obsession. It’s great for clearing your head. The part of my body My eyes. It’s the bit people look at the most. The celebrity Meryl Streep. She’s a legend and a wonderful actress. The virtue Honesty. I think the major issues we face in life transpire from not being honest with each other. The vice Dishonesty sometimes we can tell little white lies to try and prevent someone being hurt, but in the long run it usually ends up having the opposite effect. Unless it’s a surprise birthday, obviously. The smell Fresh linen. I love the smell of clean. It’s quite a nostalgic scent. The taste Cheese I just love it. The smellier and stronger flavoured, the better. My best mate in Dublin and I buy each other cheese for our birthdays every year.
