‘I would love another baby but at 41 I fear I’m too old’ —Lucy

- Mark O’Regan

TV PRESENTER Lucy Kennedy has spoken of her struggle to juggle a demanding career with motherhood — but says she would still have another child if she thought Mother Nature was on her side.

The mum-of-three is working on the next series of Living With Lucy and will spend the summer months filming the programme.

And while the 41-yearold would like to add to her ever-expanding brood, she feels she may be too old to have another child.

“It’s a really hard juggle; I’m not going to lie. I think it’s easier for men, only because I think the mum generally takes control when it comes to children.

“That’s not being sexist... it’s the natural thing generally. It’s a juggle — it’s a very hard juggle.

“I’m lucky in the way that I plan my job around my babies. I always made sure I was very clear on that.

“I had the opportunity a couple of years ago to go to the UK, but I had a baby.

“I said, ‘No I want to have my children in Ireland, and I want him to go to school in Ireland,’ so I made that quite big decision.

“I have all these balls in the air and if one falls they’ll all land on my head.

“So could I get up at four o’clock to do a breakfast show? “No I couldn’t. “I have two school runs; one at 8.30am and another at 8.50am, and I have got to be there.”

The Sandycove woman gave birth to Jess last December and is already mum to Jack (7) and Holly (5).

And if she was “left to my own devices there would be a fourth”.

“But I am 41 — three is a lot. I always, always wanted to be a mum. Ever since my late teens, I always knew I’d be a mum.

“I always had it in my mind it would happen one day and thank God it did.”

The new series of Living With Lucy will feature 10 episodes, and among the more colourful characters set to appear on the show is Kerry independent TD Michael Healy-Rae.

In a wide-ranging interview for the Paul Williams Podcast, Kennedy says the TD, who lives in Kilgarvan and is the son of late TD Jackie Healy-Rae, has an incredibly “full on crazy life”, adding that her time spent with him was “just absolutely bonkers”.

“But it’s exactly how you’d expect it to be,” she says.

“He kept saying to me why are you putting on all that war paint.

“I kept saying to him I’ll put my make-up away if you put away your phone, because I have never heard a phone ring as often as his.

“Basically, everybody in Kerry goes to him to fix their problems. He’s like a little doctor.

“He’s very warm and great craic,” Kennedy says of her time spent in the Kingdom and in the home of Healy-Rae.
