‘Some months I live like a Kardashian, others I’m just about getting by’

-

COMEDIAN Enya Martin, the force behind hit Facebook page Giz A Laugh, will be performing at the Vodafone Comedy Festival July 27-30 at the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin.

What is the most important lesson about money that your career as a comedian and actress has taught you?

In this industry it’s either a feast or a famine. Some months I live like a Kardashian and others I’m just about getting by! It has taught me to really manage my money and stretch it out as far as I can. As you just don’t know what’s around the corner.

Are you better off than your parents?

I’m definitely richer than they were at my age.

Apart from property, what’s the most expensive thing you have ever bought?

The most expensive thing I ever bought in one transaction would be my DSLR camera. But it turned out to be a great investment.

What was your worst job?

It was my first job, actually. I worked as a lounge girl in a local pub. I hated it. The hours were horrible.

What was your biggest financial mistake?

I haven’t made one yet, thankfully.

What was your best financial killing?

Camera equipment and editing software.

Do you use any money-saving apps?

No, but maybe I should start!

Android or iPhone?

I’ve used both and I just think there is more freedom with Android.

Do you know how much is in your current account?

Yes, I’m comfortable for the moment.

Have you ever made an insurance claim?

Yeah, when my apartment in Spain was broken into. I had to claim on all the stuff they stole.

Have you ever switched utility provider?

Yes, due to customer service reasons.

iTunes or Spotify?

Spotify. I can’t live without it.

What was the last thing you bought online?

Clothes for my holidays.

Do you have a mortgage? Is it fixed, variable or a tracker?

I still live at home, but looking into it next year.

What’s the most expensive place you have travelled to?

Las Vegas. But, in fairness, it was so worth it.

Would you buy Irish property now?

Yeah, I think the market is doing OK compared to 10 years ago.

Cash or card?

Card... I hate rooting around for change. But I prefer cash on a night out as using a debit card while drunk can be dangerous.

Do you ever haggle?

Never! I worked in retail and it annoyed me so much when people did this. I’d be like “you’re not on Moore Street now, Mrs”.
